Carnevale di Viareggio

We worked with existing footage of the parades and treated it as raw material rather than background, cutting floats and masked characters out of the frame and dropping them back in as graphic elements, alongside stars, shapes and animated type that burst out of the images. Everything was animated at 12fps, so the movement lands with a slight stutter that reads as handmade and keeps the piece closer to paper cutout than to clean digital motion. The colour blocking stays bold and cartoon, and the pacing builds a festive kind of chaos that matches the event itself before resolving on the endframe. Declined into three social formats and five DOOH formats.

  • Archive footage as collage material
  • 2D graphics bursting from frame
  • Animated on twelves for stop motion feel
  • Pop and cartoon colour blocking
  • Three social and five DOOH formats
