Who Am I?
Hi, I'm Walter Masut, a Motion Designer based in Milan, Italy, and I've been working in motion since 2016. My passion for animation and motion started much earlier: during high school, I began teaching myself 3D, eventually choosing the physics of light in 3D rendering equations as the subject of my final thesis.
I started working in motion later on, initially within the esports and streaming world, mostly driven by passion. Together with some friends, I used to commentate esports tournaments on Twitch. While working as a caster, I also taught myself tools like After Effects and Cinema 4D to create the animations and graphics we needed.
What started as a hobby gradually became a full time career. In 2020, I decided to move into digital marketing and joined H FARM Digital Marketing. Since then, I've experienced several evolutions within the creative team, first with the acquisition by Jakala and later with the creation of SBAM as an independent agency.
I currently work at SBAM as a Senior Motion Designer. Alongside working on some of the more complex video projects handled internally, I also supervise and mentor more junior team members. I'm one of the main points of reference for video related topics, advising on technical aspects, internal feasibility and creative direction.
Training is also an important part of my role. I support junior designers who already have some experience and want to develop their skills further, as well as people starting from scratch.
Over the past year, I've also taken on an innovation focused role, exploring generative AI tools and researching how they can be integrated into our production workflows. My goal has been to understand not only what these tools can do, but also their limitations, advantages and practical applications, and then bring that knowledge back to the team as well as managing and producing virtual production.
But what do I do outside of work? Well, quite a lot, apparently. I'm a big fan of animation, both 2D and 3D, as well as anime and manga. I'm also a nerd in the broadest sense: I love video games, from online games to story driven experiences, board games and tabletop RPGs. I've been a Dungeon Master since high school, so I've spent a frankly unreasonable amount of time running campaigns and making up worlds.
I'm also into movies, TV series and books. And when I'm not sitting at a desk, I like to stay active: I run regularly and take part in amateur races with friends, including Spartan races.
So yes, I have a lot of interests. My biggest red flag you ask? Well, I spam way too many otters stickers in Teams chats.
